AllSorts is our Saturday afternoon sports session. It’s the most popular KEEN activity. To get involved you don’t have to be sporty – just enthusiastic and willing to offer a helping hand.
What happens at AllSorts?
Each coach (volunteer) is paired with an athlete (participant). Coaches support athletes to help them have fun and improve their skills.
AllSorts is split into two halves: the first is for younger children from 4 to 13 years old and the second is for those from 14 to 25. We begin each session with a game of duck-duck-goose followed by a warm-up. After the warm-up, we split into three groups and rotate around three different activities, with a squash break halfway through. The session ends with a big Hokey Cokey, after which we have a snack break and then do it all again with the older athletes!
The sports vary each week and have included football, tennis, rounders, hockey, parachute games, boccia, volleyball, athletics and basketball.
Every activity is led by a session leader, who will be an experienced coach. The three session leaders and the KEEN Co-ordinator are on hand to give support to the coaches and athletes, especially those joining KEEN for the first time.
When and where is AllSorts?
AllSorts happens from 1:45-5:00pm every Saturday during Oxford University term time. From October to March, we’re based indoors at Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre. In the summer, from April to June, sessions are held outdoors at New College Sports Ground on St Cross Road.
When we’re indoors we provide free transport for volunteers from the City Centre and Brookes. The coach stops outside the Taylor Institution on St. Giles (opposite St.John’s College) at 1:10pm, on Banbury Road (outside St Clare’s School) at 1:20pm and outside Brookes Gypsy Lane Campus (on the road) at 1:30pm. The coach drops off at the same stops from about 5:30pm, although we recommend you stay on board and join us at the pub!
If you’re not a student, we need you to fill out a CRB check form before you come to your first session – contact Damien in the KEEN Office for more details.
