‘AllSorts’: our Saturday sport session

Every Saturday during the Oxford University term-time KEEN runs a sports session called AllSorts.

No sporting ability is necessary; KEEN coaches tailor each activity to the need of the individual athlete, emphasising co-ordination, concentration, mobility and fitness. Athletes are encouraged to compete only with themselves, fulfilling individual goals and learning new skills in a relaxed and supportive environment.

The afternoon is divided into 2 halves, the first for younger athletes, from 4 up to approx. 13/14 yrs, and the second for the older athletes from 14 to 25 year olds.

In each session athletes are paired with a volunteer. They take part in a group warm-up and are then divided into 3 different groups. Session leaders guide each group through a different activity. Recent sports have included football, basketball, hockey, relay races, playground games, Sherborne gymnastics and athletics. Every session ends with a large and energetic Hokey-Cokey!

Sessions are held at an indoor sports centre (usually Blackbird Leys sports centre) during the winter months and on New College Sports Ground during the summer term.
