FAQs
Do I need any qualifications?
No experience is necessary! The only thing you need is a sense of FUN and ENTHUSIASM! You don't need to be sporty or to have worked with children before.
If you're an Oxford Or Oxford Brookes University student you can just turn up to a session! If you're not then you will need to complete a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check before you start volunteering with KEEN. Contact Kate in the office on keen@keenoxford.org to arrange an appointment to come into the KEEN office. The following link will explain what identification you need to bring (CRB check guidance).
We hold regular information sessions throughout the term for our coaches and there are lots of opportunities to voice any concerns that you have to both the co-ordinator and other experienced volunteers.
Do I have to come every week?
NO - no commitment is necessary, just come as often (or as little) as you like!
What do I gain?
Volunteering isn't only about helping the KEEN athletes, volunteers can gain lot too.
You'll meet lots of new friends, have a wonderful time and can add up some CV points in teamwork, leadership and any careers related to psychology and medicine.
If you are interested, we can also offer you certificates for the number of hours you have volunteered for. If you are interested in this, please email keen@keenoxford.org for more information.
So... even though we can't give you a wage, KEEN can give you a lot more!
Why volunteer?
You're probably asking, 'Is it for me?' Well, you don't need to be sporty, although it doesn't hurt if you are. You don't need any experience (most KEEN coaches didn't have any when they started) and there's plenty of back-up from session leaders and other coaches, so you won't be left on your own. And the one thing I haven't mentioned so far, it's a huge amount of fun!
If you've got any further questions email Kate, the KEEN co-ordinator, keen@keenoxford.org
