Some Helpful Guidelines

In order that all the events go as smoothly as possible both for your athlete and for us, there are some basic rules. It will help us enormously if you try to stick to these:

BEFORE THE SESSIONS: please pay attention to the type of activities that your athlete will be doing at each session and make sure they are dressed appropriately - generally, this should mean comfortable, loose-fitting clothes and trainers. Skirts and dresses are not advisable, especially for older girls, as there will often be a certain amount of rolling or running activities.

ARRIVING AT THE SESSIONS: please try to arrive on time. We cannot be responsible for your athlete until they are handed over to a coach, so please stay with them until this point. If you arrive late, it can cause difficulties in the pairing up and delay the start of the session which is unfair to the other athletes.

THE CO-ORDINATOR: for the last fifteen years we have employed a full time co-ordinator. He or she is usually a recent graduate who holds the post for one year at a time. The co-ordinator is responsible to the board of trustees (a group of parents).

DURING THE SESSIONS: the Profile card which you fill in before your athlete attends activities is the best way the coaches have of understanding your athlete’s individual needs. Please make sure they are up to date and keep us aware of any changes.

AT THE END OF THE SESSIONS: please make sure that your athlete is collected promptly at the end of each session - it is a good idea to arrive a few minutes before the end as delays can be upsetting to both athletes and coaches and can hold up the beginning of the next session.

AFTER THE SESSIONS: we are always happy to hear any feedback you have on the activities and the service, whether good or bad, so please feel free to call Kate, the KEEN co-ordinator in the office. If your athlete has enjoyed something in particular we will know to incorporate that activity again and if there is a problem then we can set about solving it.

THE COST OF KEEN: All activities are completely free of charge for both athletes and coaches, apart from our over 18s session, GrEAT. We are a registered charity and we fund raise to cover our running costs.

CHILD PROTECTION AND SAFETY MEASURES: At all KEEN activities, coaches take all necessary steps to protect the well-being of athletes. Police checks are carried out on regular and non-student volunteers on a frequent basis. A copy of the child protection policy is available on request.

FIRST AIDERS: Trained first aiders are present at all KEEN activities.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED: If you would like your child attend KEEN sessions you will need to fill in an athlete profile form, which can be obtained by contacting Kate, the KEEN co-ordinator. The information you provide enables our coaches to work with your athlete constructively and safely. Once we have received this information, your child will be added to our database and you will receive termly updates on activities.
