Finding a Buddy

For young people and their parents/ carers.

Please note: all our buddy pairings will start off online and move to in person when both buddies feel safe to do so and guidelines allow.

Our volunteers undergo a DBS check and suitable level of training.

Finding a buddy update:

Thank you to so many of you for signing up for a KEEN Buddy! We are loving seeing so many new friendships. We want you to always get the best out of KEEN buddies but currently, the waiting period for those on our sign-up list to find a suitable buddy is quite long.

So, to help with this, we have decided to close new applications to request a buddy for now – while we recruit new buddies and continue to match up with those on our existing list.

Please don’t worry – we will review this regularly and will let you know when we have an update 😊

In the meantime, check out our other KEEN activities on the website – or get in touch with a bit of information about you so we can recommend anything we think you would really enjoy.

How the matching process works:

  1. Register your interest for a Buddy. We’ll then be in touch to get the process going.

2. We match you with a Buddy.

3. The first meeting takes place at your home. You and your buddy will then let us know if you are happy with the match.

4. After a minimum of 3 visits with family/caregivers present, you and your Buddy can go out and enjoy activities together!

 

What to expect:

You will meet up in person or virtually at least twice a month, with regular contact every week (via phone, email, text, or social media).

Worried about in person contact? All our buddy pairings will start off online, and move to in person meet ups when both buddies feel ready.
